A new type of industrial UAV is protected by a carbon fibre mesh sphere, which allows it to withstand the impact of collisions at a speed of 15 km/h. The battery charge is sufficient for a flight range of up to 15 minutes.
Safecopter is designed for traditional industrial site inspection, as well as surveying confined spaces and hazardous areas where conventional drones cannot fly due to their large size, the threat of collision or require advanced piloting skills.
The drone can be used in industrial and construction enterprises, in emergency rescue operations, in exploration of mines and caves. Thanks to the kit, the copter can conduct reconnaissance in areas with high smoke, low oxygen and no light conditions.
‘In the next stage of system development, we plan to equip the Safecopter with SLAM LiDAR technology. This will give the drone the ability to automatically orientate itself in confined spaces, it will also receive navigation aids and explosion-proof functions,’ RUSNANO told the Russian Aviation website.
The representative of the company added that the competitive advantages of the Russian development compared to foreign analogues lie in a lower price and the possibility of simplified certification.
The first Safecopter samples are planned to be produced at the end of 2024, while vehicles with SLAM-LiDAR devices will appear in 2025.
