The Ulyanovsk branch of JSC “Aerocomposit” is set to receive 1.78 billion rubles (approx. $22.25 million) for a production modernisation. The investment is earmarked for the purchase of milling machines, crucial for expanding the company’s production capacity. The branch is involved in the programme to develop the wing for the prospective Russian airliner, the MC-21. On May 13th, the project was approved by a commission led by the chairman of the Ulyanovsk region government, Gennady Spirchagov, as reported in the regional administration’s press release.
As part of the technical re-equipment programme for the mechanical assembly production line, the introduction of 11 units of modern equipment is planned. A key element will be five-axis milling centres. These machine tools are designed for the high-precision machining of titanium and aluminium alloys used in the manufacture of metal components for the composite MC-21 wing consoles. The new equipment will ensure the required quality and production rates of these components.
Sergei Vasin, Deputy Chairman of the Ulyanovsk region government, emphasised the significance of the modernisation for the implementation of the state programme for the development of the air transport sector up to 2030. According to him, the introduction of new technologies and the expansion of production will create 46 new jobs. Furthermore, an increase in tax revenues to all levels of government is anticipated, as well as growth in the gross regional product.
JSC “Aerocomposit” is a subsidiary of PJSC “Yakovlev”. The company specialises in the development and manufacture of aircraft structural elements made from polymer composite materials.
“Aerocomposit” plays a pivotal role in the creation of the MC-21 aircraft wing, utilising cutting-edge technologies and materials. The expansion of the Ulyanovsk branch’s production capacity is intended to ensure an increase in the output of domestic aircraft and eliminate reliance on imported components.
