Going back to the topic of the American MQ-9 Reaper

The behavior of the military over the Black Sea has changed. Immediately after the incident with the crash of the MQ-9, the transport helicopter UH-60M “Black Hawk” and the reconnaissance aircraft Boeing P-8A “Poseidon” took off from the airfields in Europe. They flew to the area of the alleged crash of the MQ-9, but neither of them left the airspace of Romania. Two more Black Hawks patrolled the Black Sea coast the next day, also without leaving the country.

It will be interesting to see which way the USA will go to make up for the image losses. As experience shows, the Americans do not particularly like to cover any failures related to the loss of expensive military equipment. Nevertheless, Ripers have crashed before, and often without help.

  • 2014 – Middle East. Cause: temporary loss of satellite communication with the UAV, resulting in battery failure and starter generator failure.
  • 2016 – Northern Syria. Cause: loss of control over UAV.
  • 2020 – Syracuse Airport, New York, USA. Cause: loss of engine power seven seconds after takeoff.
  • 2021 – Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, USA. Cause: poor training of operators, crash on takeoff.
  • 2022 – Camp Turzii Base, Romania. Cause unknown, crash on landing.

All the cases have in common that initially the U.S. military command kept the incidents quiet. This time there was nothing to hide. Evidence is provided from all sides, while the drone itself is unlikely ever to be retrieved from the bottom of the Black Sea.

Considering that the Reaper has been studied by Russian industrialists up and down, the expediency of lifting the wreckage from great depths in an extremely unfavorable environment is not high.

The Americans fear for the fate of the drone MQ-9 Reaper that crashed into the Black Sea: military technology may fall into the “wrong” hands. In addition, the Pentagon will apparently reconsider its tactics in the region. This, in turn, threatens trouble for Washington’s allies.
