In 2023, the Russian Armed Forces will receive six IL-76MD-90A and four Tu-160Ms

On 5 September 2023, the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu held a conference call with the senior staff of the Russian Armed Forces, during which the results of the International Military-Technical Forum Army-2023 and the XI Moscow Conference on International Security were summed up.

According to the Department of Mass Communications of the Russian Defense Ministry, the meeting also discussed plans to supply the Armed Forces with heavy military transport aircraft and modernised strategic missile carriers. Sergei Shoigu stressed that “six IL-76MD-90A and four Tu-160M should be delivered to the Armed Forces this year”. The state and development of the military transport aviation fleet was considered separately.

“Since the beginning of the special military operation, 8000 aircraft sorties have been made, almost 376 thousand servicemen, over 2700 units of military equipment and 132 thousand tonnes of cargo have been transported. In addition, military transport aviation was involved in firefighting and ensuring the actions of our grouping in Syria,” the Russian Defence Minister said.

The head of the defence ministry also noted that since the beginning of the so-called counter-offensive the losses of the AFU exceeded sixty-six thousand people and seven thousand six hundred weapons. The enemy has not achieved its goals in any of the directions, Sergei Shoigu said.
