The serial production of the S-70 Okhotnik (Hunter) heavy attack UAV is planned to start in Novosibirsk within two years. The deputy governor of the Novosibirsk Oblast, Sergey Semka, announced the news.
The Okhotnik will be produced at Novosibirsk Aircraft Plant (NAP) named after V.P. Chkalov, which is a branch of PJSC Sukhoi Company, the developer of the UAV. The roll-out of the first flight prototype of S-70 took place at the NAP in December 2021.
In February 2022, the authorities said that the NAZ will modernize production with the construction of a new building for the production of C-70 heavy unmanned aerial vehicles. In this regard, it is planned to increase the number of jobs by 1.5 times, and the amount of investment will be about 2.5 billion rubles.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said that the Okhotnik is a highly intelligent system capable of solving a wide range of tasks alone, in a group and together with manned aircraft.
Developed at the Sukhoi Design Bureau, the S-70 Okhotnik drone is based on a “flying wing” scheme using technologies to reduce the effective scattering area, which reduces its radar visibility. According to open sources, the takeoff weight of the drone is up to 20 tons, the maximum flight speed – about 1 000 km/hour.
Serial deliveries of the UAV are scheduled to begin in 2024. Okhotnik first took to the air on August 3, 2019, the flight lasted more than 20 minutes under the control of the operator. On September 27, 2019, the UAV flew in conjunction with a Su-57 fighter jet.
