Rostec State Corporation has announced the development of training programmes for operators of the S-70 Okhotnik heavy attack drones to accelerate the introduction of units equipped with these drones, RIA Novosti reported.
The UAC plant in Novosibirsk has already started preparations for the production of an installation batch of S-70s that will meet the needs of the state customer. Rostec emphasised that the Hunter is currently undergoing a stage of preliminary tests. The developers are paying special attention to checking the functionality and reliability of the drone, as well as the use of weapons.
The Okhotnik strike drone was developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It is 14 metres long, has a wingspan of 19 metres and a take-off weight of more than 20 tonnes. The apparatus is designed according to the “flying wing” scheme with the use of technologies and materials that reduce its radar and thermal visibility. In December 2021, the C-70B-1 Hunter UAV with a flat nozzle was rolled out in Novosibirsk.
In May 2023, during tests, the S-70B drone fired guided missiles at ground targets, which are part of the armament of the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter.
Earlier it was reported that serial production of the Okhotnik heavy strike UAV is planned to begin in Novosibirsk within two years, with deliveries of the UAV to the troops scheduled to begin in 2024.
