The Irkutsk Aviation Plant has manufactured and handed over a batch of Su-30SM2 multirole fighters to the Russian Defense Ministry, the United Aircraft Corporation’s press service said.
“Today we have handed over another batch of new upgraded Su-30SM2 fighters to the Russian Defense Ministry. The aircraft of this type have proved their high efficiency over the years of operation and are very important for the defence capability of our country,” Rostec’s first deputy director general Vladimir Artyakov said.
Production of aircraft under the state defense order is proceeding according to schedule. All aircraft, scheduled for delivery this year, are already in the final assembly shop or in the flight test division.
The Su-30SM2 fighters represent a further development of the aircraft in service with the Russian Air Force and Russian Navy. The new aircraft have been upgraded with an improved avionics suite. The modernisation carried out on the orders of the Russian Ministry of Defence has increased the combat capabilities of the aircraft. In particular, the range of air target detection and identification has increased. New high-precision means of engaging air, land and sea targets at a range of several hundred kilometres have been introduced into the fighters’ armament.
