The head of the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia), Dmitry Yadrov, said that Russian airlines carried more than 103 million passengers in 2023, which exceeded the expectations of the Russian Ministry of Transport. According to the comprehensive programme for the development of the aviation industry, in 2023 the passenger traffic of Russian airlines was expected to reach 103 million passengers, of which 82.4 million – within Russia, here, Yadrov noted, a 6.6% growth was recorded in relation to the previous year.
According to the head of Rosaviatsia, this result is evidence of the successful implementation of the task set by the president and the chairman of the government to develop the aviation industry.
“We have provided more than 103 million We are in the calculations, we have official data in a month. But we can say with confidence that the task set before us, both by the president and the chairman of the government, it has been fulfilled,” Dmitry Yadrov said.
He added that despite the sanctions pressure from Western countries, Russian airlines have managed to maintain stability and ensure uninterrupted air services at home and abroad.
In 2022, passenger traffic in Russia fell by 14 per cent to 95.2 million people. This was due to restrictions on flights to Europe and North America, as well as the suspension of deliveries of foreign aircraft and spare parts. However, the industry showed signs of recovery in 2023.
The comprehensive programme for the development of the aviation industry until 2030 plans to increase passenger traffic to 105.6 million by 2025 and 121.3 million by 2030. To achieve these goals, it is envisaged to develop regional air services, modernise airport infrastructure and purchase new domestically produced aircraft.
