The cost of parking an An-124 cargo plane of Russia’s Volga-Dnepr Airlines at Toronto airport, which cannot leave because of sanctions, has exceeded $330,000, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The An-124 has been parked at the eastern end of Pearson International Airport for more than a year. The plane arrived in Toronto on Feb. 27, 2022, with a cargo of personal protective equipment from China. Before it could leave, Canada imposed sanctions that closed its airspace to Russian aircraft.
In 2022, each minute the An-124 was parked at a Canadian airport cost $0.55. Since this year, the fee has increased to $0.58, the publication writes.
