Roselektronika Holding and the United Aircraft Corporation have delivered to the Russian Armed Forces another modernised A-50U long-range radar surveillance and guidance system. As part of Roselektronika, the modernisation work was carried out by Vega Concern, and as part of the United Aircraft Corporation – by Beriev TANTK, Rostec’s press service reported.
The aircraft can detect new types of aircraft and is also capable of simultaneously escorting more targets and guided fighters than the previous modification. The use of modern equipment has reduced the aircraft’s weight, increased its range and time in the air during combat missions.
The modernised aircraft received new electronics with higher performance and speed, which allowed to increase the capabilities of functional software. The use of new LCD monitors of greater size and resolution has increased the efficiency of the radar display system, and improved ergonomics of the aircraft is designed to reduce fatigue of the tactical crew. The A-50U also received a new piloting and navigation system.
“The A-50U long-range radar surveillance and guidance aircraft complex is an essential machine in the conditions of modern combat operations. As a result of modernisation, the aircraft received new technical equipment, which increases the speed and range of detection of air, land and sea targets, and the effectiveness of countering the enemy. The aircraft has been upgraded as part of the implementation of the programme to upgrade the fleet of airborne radar aircraft provided for by the state defence order,” Rostec said.
“The use of modernised A-50U flying radars in the area of a special military operation allows to promptly detect enemy air objects and effectively counteract them by aviation and air defence forces. In view of the high demand for these machines in the troops, we have handed over another aircraft and plan to complete the modernisation of another A-50 complex in the near future,” Vega Concern’s general designer Vyacheslav Mikheev added.
