Over several days, university lecturers specialising in training professionals for the domestic aviation industry visited the capital of the Irkutsk region, where they familiarised themselves with the activities of the Irkutsk Radio Engineering Institute and manufacturing processes at the Irkutsk Aircraft Plant. The visit formed part of the organisation’s fourth internship module, arranged within the framework of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) project, as reported in the factory’s newspaper, Irkutsk Aviator.

Before travelling to Irkutsk, a team of twenty had already visited the Moscow Aviation Institute, Sukhoi Design Bureau, Kazan Federal University, and the branch of AeroComposite JSC. They also toured the Novosibirsk Aircraft Plant, SIBNIA named after S.A. Chaplygin, and other sites. At each facility, the instructors acquired new knowledge to supplement their professional expertise.

At Irkutsk State Technical University (ISTU), the university’s collaboration with the Irkutsk Aircraft Plant was demonstrated, along with discussions on digital technologies utilised in the manufacturing of high-precision aeronautical components for large-scale products.

During the visit, the lecturers attended presentations by specialists from the chief technologist’s and chief designer’s departments, and an organised tour of the facility was arranged. They examined equipment used in the mechanical assembly and blanking-stamping workshops, and learned how the assembly of aircraft modules is organised, as well as where and how final system testing is conducted.

The primary focus of the visit was on personnel training, which is a crucial aspect for a high-tech enterprise such as IAZ (Irkutsk Aircraft Plant). It is essential that students not only possess theoretical knowledge but also gain practical experience.

This summer, the sixth module of the programme will take place in Moscow. Within this framework, lecturers are expected to prepare proposals for improving aviation-focused curricula. These initiatives are planned to be integrated into university educational programmes.

“Considering the scale of the event, its coordination with leading enterprises of UAC, and the involvement of qualified specialists, significant results can be anticipated from this systematic approach,” the article concludes.
