Russia has 543 certified organisations engaged in aircraft repair. This ensures a high level of service for air transport and its safety, said Vitaly Savelyev, candidate for the post of Deputy Prime Minister of the Government, speaking at the plenary session of the State Duma on 13 May.
According to him, the safety of air transport in the Russian Federation is a priority of the Ministry of Transport. Last year there were 661 thousand commercial flights in Russia. Of these, 402 flights were delayed or cancelled for technical reasons, which is less than 0.5%. According to the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), 2023 saw the lowest number of aviation accidents in Russia in the last 17 years.
Savelyev confirmed that the country is fully provided with everything needed for aircraft, the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) is responsible for this, which carries out more than three thousand inspections annually. A few years ago, the engineering company Aeroflot Technics was founded, which now employs 2.5 thousand engineers. The company has 23 large hangars capable of simultaneously accommodating the repair of 78 narrow-body and 23 wide-body aircraft.
In addition, Kommersant reports that S7 Technics MRO has mastered a complex type of overhaul of CFM56-5B and 7B engines installed on the most popular A320 and B737 aircraft. In total, about 800 CFM56 engines are in operation in Russia, with Aeroflot Group being the largest operator.
A number of forms of MRO have traditionally been performed in the Russian Federation, but the most complex work related to hot end overhaul has not been mastered. S7 will provide overhaul services for the low-pressure turbine modules, the low-pressure compressor and the hot part – the gas generator. S7 is already overhauling Honeywell 131-9A and Honeywell 131-9B auxiliary propulsion system for A320 and B737 respectively. In 2024, S7 Technics received approval for the overhaul of Honeywell RE220 auxiliary propulsion system for SSJ100.
On the same day, the State Duma approved the candidature of Vitaly Savelyev for the position of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation. He will be in charge of the transport industry.
