Kazan Aircraft Plant (a branch of Tupolev JSC ) has completed a two-day scientific and technical competition “Step Forward!” to improve the Tu-214 airplane. The contest was attended by 36 participants, including not only Tupolev employees, but also experts from UAC subsidiary organizations representing Moscow, Kazan, Samara, Ulyanovsk and Taganrog. Among the contestants there were both students of MAI, KAI, Bauman Moscow State Technical University and experienced specialists.
Welcoming the participants of the blitz competition, Konstantin Timofeev, Managing Director of Tupolev JSC, noted the importance of teamwork. All participants of the contest are not indifferent people interested in the development of the aircraft industry.
“I would like to emphasize that the results we will show in aircraft construction in the next 3-4 years will determine the future of the entire Russian aviation for many years to come,” he said.
On the first day, the participants familiarized themselves with the Tu-214 under construction at the aircraft plant’s production site and studied the elements that were proposed for improvement. Their task was to solve specific issues on the modernization of the aircraft. Within a strictly allotted time frame, the teams of 5-6 people had to develop a technology to check the tightness of the cabin and luggage and cargo compartment, as well as to ensure the possibility of opening the fuselage flap of the aircraft without the use of manual opening mechanism.
On the second day the teams presented their developments to the jury, which evaluated the originality of the solutions, their elaboration, economic efficiency and implementation potential. According to the results of the competition, a team of five people was recognized as the winner, whose participants received a cash prize. Among them were employees of Tupolev JSC and IL PJSC: Danil Mikhailov, Mikhail Sukhinin, Andrey Arkhipov, Sofia Vostrikova (all of Tupolev JSC) and Danil Beychuk (IL PJSC).
The significant contribution of other participants working in companies such as Yakovlev was also noted, pointing to the need for joint efforts, which, according to the organizers, indicates useful cooperation and exchange of experience between specialists from different development bureaus.
“The participation in the competition of specialists from different UAC enterprises allowed to unite knowledge and experience, which contributes to more effective solution of aircraft modernization tasks. The result of the hackathon shows the high potential of Russian aviation engineering thought and the readiness of specialists to solve complex tasks in the interests of the development of domestic aviation,” Konstantin Timofeev noted.
