Aeroflot and Rosatom State Corporation have signed a memorandum on strategic cooperation in the development, testing, production and maintenance of aviation equipment products. The document was signed on the margins of the Eastern Economic Forum by Aeroflot CEO Sergei Alexandrovsky and ROSATOM CEO Alexei Likhachev, the airline’s press service reported.

Under the conditions of sanctions, Russian carriers are experiencing difficulties in supplying original components produced by organisations approved by the aviation authorities of the countries of aircraft developers. The launch of own production of some foreign spare parts in Russia and their certification will ensure safety and increase the volume of air traffic in Russia.

The partners intend to create a production structure based on the scientific, research and production infrastructure of Rosatom’s enterprises and Aeroflot’s competences in the field of aircraft development. As part of the co-operation, production of components and parts for maintenance and repair of foreign-made aircraft will be set up, with the approval of aviation authorities. The documentation required for the manufacture and repair of aircraft components will be developed by Aeroflot’s design bureau.

In March 2023, the carrier received the FAP-21J aircraft developer certificate with expanded powers. In partnership with Rosatom, the airline plans to build a full cycle of import substitution of a significant number of foreign-made components and parts.

“Cooperation between Aeroflot and Rosatom will make a significant contribution to the systematisation of work on comprehensive engineering and technical support for the airworthiness of foreign-made aircraft operated by Aeroflot Group and other Russian air carriers,” said Aeroflot CEO Sergey Alexandrovsky. – “This will allow us to successfully fulfil the tasks of ensuring uninterrupted and safe air traffic in Russia.

“Rosatom’s scientific division already has a positive experience of co-operation with Aeroflot. This year we have implemented a number of joint projects on import substitution of various components for foreign-made aircraft systems,” said Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom State Corporation.
