The cost of the new MC-21 for Aeroflot and other carriers will be much lower than the market, according to Rostec’s head Sergey Chemezov.

According to him, as quoted by TASS, this is a deliberate step of the state to reduce the burden on airlines and the availability of airline tickets, the cost of which includes the leasing payment. “This is done on purpose so that at a difficult time for the industry, airlines could afford to buy new equipment and domestic transportation would develop,” Chemezov said.

At the same time, the state will help the aircraft industry partially offset the cost of the planes, Chemezov stressed. “It is clear that without measures of state support, this approach does not work, so the state will certainly help the aircraft industry to partially compensate the cost of aircraft. Similar approaches work in many countries, in Europe or China, where the authorities consciously subsidize the cost of aircraft for carriers to maintain a competitive price level,” said the head of Rostec.

In 2021, Yuri Slyusar, CEO of the United Aircraft Corporation, told the Vedomosti newspaper that the MC-21 aircraft catalog price was $97 million (~7 billion 883 million rubles). At that time he did not name the real cost of the plane for the final buyer explaining it by the world practice and the terms of the contracts. However, the catalog prices are comparable to those of the Airbus 320 and Boeing 737, said Yuri Slyusar.

TASS, citing its source in government agencies, reports that the cost of the MC-21 will be about 3 billion rubles for Russian airlines. “A similar Boeing costs 5-6 billion rubles,” the source added.
