The Moscow Arbitration Court has ruled to seize more than $1.9 million from the Turkish company Savunma Sanayi in favor of Russian Ilyushin Design Bureau, Interfax reported, citing court filing materials.

Most of the money, almost $1.6 million, is owed by Savunma Sanayi to Il under a contract for forest firefighting services on Be-200 amphibian aircraft. These aircraft are manufactured by Beriev Aircraft Company, which is managed by Ilyushin. The rest of the sum is the exchange rate difference and a forfeit for two more similar contracts.

All three agreements were signed in 2020. In June of the same year it was reported that two Be-200s arrived in Turkey to fight forest fires. The UAC then said that the planes with Russian crews will be on duty for four months in the vicinity of Antalya, Izmir and Bodrum. Before that the Turkish side studied the possibility of acquiring a batch of Be-200s.

On 14 August 2021 the Be-200 Emergency Aircraft of the Russian Defense Ministry crashed near the settlement of Adana and was involved in extinguishing natural fires. The aircraft after fetching water, in the process of gaining altitude in the mountainous terrain was dangerously close to rocks. Water was dumped to reduce the weight of the aircraft and increase its lift, but it failed to reach a safe altitude and crashed into a mountain. The crew of eight died.

The Be-200 is a multipurpose amphibious aircraft designed for firefighting, emergency aid in disaster areas, search and rescue on water, sanitary and cargo transportations as well as environmental monitoring. The aircraft is capable of dropping up to 270 tons of water on a fire spot per refueling.
