Kazakhstan will not buy fighter jets from France, said Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Air Defence Forces (AFDF) on armament – head of the main armament department Colonel Yerzhan Nildibayev. This is reported by KazTAG.

“I will say right away, I want to disappoint you, there were no negotiations on this issue. There were no such plans. A good aircraft, a good car, but very expensive. Therefore, we believe that, choosing in the price-quality issue, we have so far settled on the Su-30SM aircraft,” Nildibayev said at a briefing on 30 November.

Earlier, French publication La Tribune reported that France plans to supply Kazakhstan with Rafale fighter jets.

Russia sold Kazakhstan four Su-30SM fighters, a battery of Tor-2E SAM systems and flight simulators for Su-25SM attack aircraft in 2023, Nildibayev said. There was no information about these agreements earlier

“As for equipping the air defence forces, in accordance with the rearmament programme approved by the RK government, the renewal of the aircraft fleet and air defence equipment continues. Within the framework of the concluded contract between the Kazakhstani side and the European aviation concern Airbus Military, the aircraft fleet was replenished with C-295 military transport aircraft. New Mi-35 and Mi-171Sh transport and combat helicopters have been received. By the end of this year, another battery of TOR-2M is scheduled to arrive. At the beginning of next year we will be equipped with six Su-30SM aircraft, which is the best multifunctional combat aircraft in the world, a battery of Tor-M2K SAMs and an A-400M military transport aircraft,” the head of Kazakhstan’s Defence Forces chief shared his plans.
