Zvezda TV channel in one of the programmes of Military Acceptance showed footage of tests of new concrete-piercing bombs dropped from the modernised Su-30SM2 multifunctional fighter. The peculiarity of the new armament is that the bombs explode after dropping with a slight pause.
After dropping, they descend on parachutes, at a certain altitude the parachutes separate, the accelerators are activated and the bombs fly down to the target at high speed. However, the explosion does not happen immediately. The bombs penetrate the earth’s surface, and after a few seconds they detonate.
In addition to concrete-piercing bombs, the Su-30SM2 aircraft has been armed with long-range missiles. Su-30 chief designer Oleg Pankov told Military Acceptance that compared to the previous version of the fighter, the Su-30SM2 has almost doubled the detection range of ground and air targets.
“It uses integrated long-range weapons – almost everything that the Russian Federation has now is used on it. We have practically doubled the detection range compared to the Su-30SM. Both for ground targets and air targets,” said Oleg Pankov.
According to the chief designer, one of the military units, having received this aircraft and modern anti-radar weapons, literally on the third day hit an American Patriot MANPADS, which was confirmed by intelligence.
Sukhoi Design Bureau engineers are now working on updating the software for the Su-30SM2 aircraft. In particular, it will be possible to fight both low-speed and hypersonic targets.
