The introduction of new types of weapons in the Mi-28NM attack helicopters can significantly increase their combat capabilities. One of the most promising areas is the use of light multipurpose guided missiles (LMUR) Izdeliye-305, allowing to hit targets without entering the zone of effective use of enemy air defence, as well as the inclusion of helicopters in a single information and reconnaissance digital space on the battlefield. Bekkhan Ozdoyev, industrial director of the arms, ammunition and special chemistry cluster of Rostec State Corporation, told the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper in an interview.
These areas have not yet been fully explored, but their implementation will significantly enhance the combat capabilities of the Mi-28NM helicopter, he noted. LMURs are protected from electronic warfare (EW) and are highly accurate, enabling surgical strikes by flying into windows, doors or dugouts.
‘The high efficiency of Izdeliye-305 missile is confirmed by combat experience of its use during a special military operation. They are guaranteed to destroy enemy equipment, structures, positions, crossings. Moreover, their control channels cannot be suppressed with the help of EW, not a single such case has been recorded,’ Ozdoyev said.
He added that due to the accuracy of the munition, pilots of attack helicopters can choose exactly where to hit an object.
‘… They use this missile like a surgeon’s scalpel. As a result, the missile can fly to the militants even in the attic through a hearing window,’ Ozdoyev said.
He added that attack helicopter crews also successfully use Igla anti-aircraft guided missiles against enemy drones – they act as fighters.
In addition, Bekkhan Ozdoyev noted the high effectiveness of high-explosive bombs with universal planning and correction modules (FAB UMPK), which are struck by Su-34 frontline bombers from a high altitude and distance from the target. FABs with UMPKs are capable of destroying enemy strongholds and engineering structures over large areas. Their use leaves the enemy in a state of shock.
‘The effectiveness of these munitions today is noted by all experts, including foreign ones. One FAB-3000 bomb is enough to, as they say, tear an enemy stronghold to shreds. The shock wave covers an area of 11 football fields,’ Bekkhan Ozdoyev said.
