Regional Governor Alexander Sokolov met in Kirov with Alexander Nikonov, a representative of the Molot group of companies, and Sergey Yuzhanin, head of the Za Vyatka Foundation. The discussion was about the production of ZHMIL-17 and Viatka unmanned aerial vehicles in the Kirov region.

Enterprises of the Molot group of companies work together to assemble UAVs. The electronics are developed by the Kirov enterprises, and it is planned to localise production on the basis of the Kirov components in stages.

The ZHMIL-17 and Viatka are classic FPV quadcopters with manual control. The operator puts on special glasses and sees the entire panorama through the video camera installed on the drone. The devices can both drop explosive devices and operate as a borne ordnance, which enables them to effectively hit enemy objects, including armored vehicles.

The first production batch has already been supplied to the Ministry of Defence for use on the Ukrainian front. Kirov is now producing 250 units per month, with production ramping up to 500 units. The Molot group plans to reach the production of at least 1,000 striking UAVs per month within two months.

“First and foremost, the developers have given the drones to our defenders for testing. When our guys came on leave, they were trained to operate them and handed over a series of drones to be tested in combat conditions. The feedback from the front line is most positive: the drones are easy to navigate, lightweight, manoeuvrable and silent,” said Alexander Sokolov.

ZHMIL-17 – a compact FPV-quadcopter of short-range, has a combat unit, electro-fuzes control, equipped with a self-security system. The Viatka is a kamikaze strike drone, which can be used to drop bombs and grenades, as well as in barraging ammunition mode.
