The Leonardo Automated Information System (AIS) of the air transport organisation, developed jointly by RT-Project Technologies and Sirena-Travel, is a fully Russian passenger service. The system includes a set of solutions developed in accordance with IATA (International Air Transport Association) standards and allows for the automation of most routine processes in ticket booking and passenger check-in.
At the end of last year, Leonardo helped Russian and foreign airlines to carry 90 million passengers, doubling the results by 2022. AIS provides functionality for interline and codeshare agreements, supports e-ticketing technology and ancillary sales through the issuance of electronic documents, and is compatible with all internal and external products and services used by airlines. Today, 64 airlines are connected to AIS Leonardo.
“In 2023, we saw an increase in traffic at partner airlines. It was about 120% of the total volume in 2022. The Leonardo system has been able to cope with this scaling. Today, 64 airlines are connected to AIS and they carried 90 million passengers in 2023, compared to 44 million the year before. The system is constantly being developed and improved for the benefit of passengers and airlines. Last year alone, 320 optimisations were implemented in the Leonardo system to improve usability and security, and we will continue to improve our IT solution,” Alexander Kuzhekin, RT-Project Technologies Development Director said.
The migration of Russian airlines to a domestic booking system took place in 2022 amid the threat of their being cut off from Western providers. Coordinated action by Russian developers and airlines prevented the collapse of the industry. Today, Leonardo is used by Aeroflot, Pobeda, Red Wings, Smartavia, NordStar, Aurora, Rusline, Yamal, Utair, Alrosa and other Russian airlines.
Leonardo’s AIS is also offered to foreign airlines, with the main destinations being friendly countries in Latin America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. In April 2023, a contract was signed with the Venezuelan airline Conviasa SA for the delivery of the system. The system is now being implemented in Venezuela. The system has also been launched in Belarus, where the national carrier Belavia is using it in full.
The system is constantly being developed and improved for the benefit of passengers and airlines. Last year alone, the Leonardo system underwent 320 enhancements to improve usability and security, and the system is preparing to expand its functionality, including the use of artificial intelligence.
