The Irkutsk Aviation Plant has completed preliminary installation of Russian-manufactured interior components on the MC-21 test aircraft (tail number 73057). The airliner received overhead bins, window and ceiling panels, galley and lavatory modules. The installation work included wardrobes, partitions, curtains, door trim and paneling, as well as business class seating. The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) announced the milestone in a press release.

Aviation Interiors manufactured the interior components as part of Russia’s import substitution program. Company representatives supervised the installation process.

Genar Shuvalov, Head of Interior, Passenger and Cabin Equipment Department at Yakovlev PJSC, emphasized the quality of the new interior systems. All interior components fitted precisely into their designated positions.

UAC noted that mass production of domestic interior components requires completion of testing and certification compliance with technical standards. Production facilities and technologies are already being adapted to meet new standards to ensure regular deliveries for MC-21 production aircraft.

“Installing the first interior kit launches our strategic partnership with Yakovlev PJSC. This step enables us to begin serial production of interiors for the MC-21,” stated Roman Ramazanov, CEO of Aviation Interiors.

According to Ramazanov, the company plans complete import substitution of floor panels and cargo compartment panels. Production of these components will be established in Ulyanovsk.

Note: The MC-21 is a Russian narrow-body passenger aircraft developed by Irkut Corporation (part of UAC) as a competitor to the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families.
