At the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (PMGF-2024) a new modification of Mi-171A3 helicopter in AURUS configuration was presented. This version is designed for comfortable business travel, including long distances. The project was implemented jointly with PJSC Gazprom and coordinated by Gazprom Tech, a subsidiary company. This was reported by Rostec’s press service.

The Mi-171A3 is a multi-purpose offshore helicopter designed to service remote hard-to-reach facilities, including offshore. The maximum takeoff weight of the machine is 13,000 kg, and its range with main fuel tanks is more than 850 km. The helicopter can operate in various climatic conditions, including the Arctic, and is designed for transportation of up to ten passengers. Its cabin is equipped with comfortable seats, air conditioning system, as well as modern multimedia systems. In the future it is planned to equip the modification with a panoramic porthole.

In 2022, the Mi-171A3 in search and rescue configuration performed a non-stop flight from the site of the M.L. Mil and N.I. Kamov National Helicopter Center in Tomilino (Moscow Region) to the Northern Capital for demonstration at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum PMGF-2022. This was the first interregional flight as part of the flight test program.

“The Mi-171A3 is the flagship of the Mi-8 family, which embodies the entire experience of our holding’s helicopter engineering development,” said Alexander Danilov, head of the Mi-171A3 directorate of NCV Mil and Kamov at Russian Helicopters.

According to him, this universal platform can be used not only by oil and gas companies, but also by airlines specializing in cargo, corporate and VIP transportation.

The helicopter complies with Russian and international aviation standards, has an accident-resistant design of the fuselage and fuel system, as well as an onboard automated system for controlling the operation of the main units. All components of the aircraft are Russian-made. The designers of NCV Mil and Kamov paid special attention to the modernization of the carrier system. The main rotor with composite blades, which received an improved aerodynamic layout, was significantly redesigned, the helicopter also received a highly efficient X-shaped tail rotor.

Mi-171A3 is equipped with VK-2500PS-03 engines with automatic control system BARK-6V-7S, which allows to increase engine power in emergency mode, provides maintenance of modes in a wider range of outdoor air temperatures and improves fuel efficiency.
