The MiG-35 fighter jet, designed for use in conditions of high intensity of armed conflicts and saturated air defence systems, is already being used in the zone of the special military operation in Ukraine. Sergei Korotkov, general designer of the United Aircraft Corporation, told RIA Novosti.

“Today, due to the events that are taking place, the machine is already involved in all operations that are being carried out,” he said when asked whether a decision has been made on serial purchases of the MiG-35 for the Russian Air Force.

The MiG-35 was first presented to the public in 2017. The aircraft made its first flight in 2016. At the moment, the Russian Air Force has six pre-production models of the MiG-35 at its disposal. However, the final decision on serial purchases has not yet been made. According to Sergei Korotkov, tests are yet to be completed, following the results of which the Russian Defence Ministry will make a final decision on the aircraft.

As for deliveries abroad, the UAC general designer explained that the MiG-35 characteristics suit foreign customers, and negotiations on export deliveries are underway.

The MiG-35 is capable of destroying aerial targets at any time of day and in any weather conditions, as well as hitting moving and stationary ground and surface targets. Developers note its reduced radar visibility, the presence of a radar station with an active phased antenna array, helmet-mounted target designation system and new engines with increased thrust. Moreover, the MiG-35 has the ability to fulfil the role of a tanker.

The fighter can use all types of guided and unguided missiles, as well as guided bombs. This significantly expands its capabilities in combat operations and makes the aircraft a versatile vehicle for performing various tasks.
