Barnaul’s YashZ Avia plant plans to produce a pilot batch of aviation tires for the MC-21 aircraft in May 2023. Now Russian aircrafts are equipped with pneumatic tires of French company Michelin. The company’s managing director Boris Shalagin told TASS on March 10.

“We have a very serious task: to produce the first pilot batches of nose and main tires in a very short time, during May. Now the machines for their production are being handed over. Without waiting for the equipment to arrive, we are preparing sites in order to install and hook it up right away,” said Shalagin.

He did not name the terms of launching the industrial production, because, according to him, it is necessary first to test the tires and certify them. A representative of the company came to Omsk to accept the machine tool for the assembly of the second stage of the aviation tire, which was developed by the Omsk company Polycon.

Earlier it became known that on the night of 8 to 9 December 2022 there was a fire at the production sites of LLC Nortek and LLC Yashz Avia in Barnaul, which are involved in the import substitution program for SSJ-New and MS-21 aircrafts. The tire plants incurred significant losses, the technological cycle of production was disrupted. It was planned to begin the delivery of pneumatics for SSJ100 in March 2023, but it was postponed until the end of the year.

At the same time the online edition of Frequent Flyers reports that on March 20 the first Superjet 100 aircraft in regular service will receive the tires made by YashZ Avia, but this will be a one-time event, and until the start of the Altai tires, the worn out ones will be replaced by the imported ones still in stock.
