The Investment Council under the Governor of the Irkutsk Region has approved the re-equipment project for the Irkutsk Aviation Plant (IAZ), a subsidiary of Yakovlev Public Joint Stock Company (PJSC). The meeting, chaired by the regional Prime Minister Konstantin Zaitsev, affirmed the region’s commitment to fostering an attractive environment for investors.
The modernization initiative for IAZ production facilities, involving investments exceeding 65 billion rubles, is spearheaded by Yakovlev PJSC, the developer of the MC-21 medium-range airliner. The primary objective is to commence serial production of the aircraft and achieve an assembly rate of 36 MC-21 aircraft per year.
Achieving these targets requires not only the construction of new workshops and the renovation of existing ones but also the implementation of advanced equipment, as well as the recruitment and training of highly skilled personnel. The program’s completion date is set for 2030. The remaining timeframe allows for the phased improvement of the enterprise’s production infrastructure and technological base.
According to a press release from the Irkutsk Regional Government, signing an investment agreement with Yakovlev PJSC will be a crucial step in launching the MC-21 serial production. Under the agreement, regional authorities pledge to provide support measures necessary for the successful completion of the plant modernization. The project implementation is expected to not only increase the production volume of new aircraft but also expand employment within the industry and strengthen the position of the Russian aircraft industry in both domestic and international markets.
The modernization of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant is regarded as a strategically important element for the development of the Irkutsk Region’s industrial potential and the entire Russian aviation industry. The project is a long-term initiative and aims to create conditions for sustainable growth in the production of modern passenger aircraft. The implementation of new technologies and the enhancement of personnel qualifications will enable the enterprise to meet the highest standards in civil aircraft manufacturing.
