Adhering to the memorandum on strategic cooperation in the development, testing, production and maintenance of aviation equipment products signed between Aeroflot Group and Rosatom State Corporation on the margins of the Eastern Economic Forum in September 2023, the partners will complete the reconstruction of the site for the production of parts for the flagship carrier’s Airbus and Boeing aircraft as early as August this year.
A centralised system of certified aircraft production is being formed at nuclear industry enterprises to import substitution of components and consumables for foreign aircraft. At the end of June, by order of Aeroflot, Rosatom produced the first batch of locks (50 pieces) for the luggage and cargo compartments of the entire Airbus A320/321 fleet equipped with a containerised luggage loading system. These locks will be installed in the near future during the scheduled maintenance of aircraft, they are 40% cheaper compared to the original parts, but at the same time they are not inferior in quality and safety requirements.
The renewed production facility of the State Corporation will produce Russian analogues of air-conditioning, power supply and lighting systems of aircraft, elements of rescue, oxygen and fire-fighting equipment. All products will receive certificates and Rosaviatsia’s approval for use in foreign airliners, Izvestia newspaper reports with reference to the airline.
The development of aircraft parts is being carried out by Rosatom’s division JSC Science and Innovations. As part of the import substitution project, specialists from the Leipunsky Institute of Physics and Energy have developed design solutions to replace air filters for air supply and recirculation systems in A&B aircraft. Currently, Aeroflot is producing these filters by order of Aeroflot. The airline claims that their service life exceeds the performance of similar imported products by 20-25%.
Certification of the products is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAP-109). In the near future, Rosatom plans to apply for FAP-21G certificate, which will allow the company to produce metal, plastic and composite products for aviation. Rosaviation has already checked the accreditation of part of the laboratories for compliance with FAP-135, and a final decision is pending.
In March 2023, Aeroflot received the FAP-21J aviation equipment developer certificate with extended authorisation. In partnership with Rosatom, the airline plans to build a full cycle of import substitution of a significant number of foreign-made components and parts.
