Russian-Belarusian aircraft received the designation LMS-401

During the visit of Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Roman Golovchenko on July 9 to Yekaterinburg for the exhibition “Innoprom-2023” an agreement was signed with Russian partners on the production of a light aircraft of local lines in Belarus. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic Piotr Parkhomchik on air of the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.

He added that the airplane is called LMS-401, while the development work is carried out by Belarusian specialists.

“We are planning to produce a light 12-seat airplane LMS-401, to acquire all the competencies for this purpose. We are at the stage of development of experimental and design works – our specialists will develop and then produce it. The participation of Minsk Civil Aviation Plant No. 407 and the 558th Aviation Repair Plant in Baranovichi will be required,” said the Deputy Minister.

The press service of the Ural Civil Aviation Plant specified that the airplane will not be a 12-seater, but for 19 passengers, as previously reported.

Earlier, in May 2023, Oleg Bocharov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, said at the HeliRussia-2023 exhibition that the joint Russian-Belarusian airplane will replace the Czech L-410. According to him, the airplane will have non-retractable landing gear and maximum reduction of flight hour cost. As part of the power plant of the new airplane it is planned to use the VK-800 engine, onboard equipment – a complex developed by KRET in 2019.

On July 12, Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, said on the sidelines of Innoprom in Yekaterinburg that the aircraft to be jointly developed by Russia and Belarus will be a 19-seater, and its commercial operation will begin in 2028, with certification to be completed in 2027.
