The SJ-100 prototype aircraft, b/n 97021, has performed a run on the runway at the factory airfield in Komsomolsk-on-Amur with the front landing gear strut detached. The next stage of factory tests will be the first flight of the airplane, which, according to UAC CEO Yuri Slyusar, will take place in September.

“Running with the front strut breakaway is one of the key moments in preparation for flight tests. It allows the crew to simultaneously practice the takeoff procedure and the process of its emergency and safe abort,” the UAC press service explained.

Earlier, the SJ-100 successfully completed tests on the shimmy program – a phenomenon that occurs under the action of lateral forces from the ground on the tire of a rolling wheel. The increasing amplitude of such oscillations can lead to loss of control due to increasing yaw or even strut collapse. To combat this dangerous phenomenon, aircraft landing gear is equipped with special dampers, and to ensure that the strut can cope with the resulting shimmy effect, field tests are conducted.

Also in the research department of dynamic strength of aircraft of S.A. Chaplygin SibNIA FAU the main and front landing gear supports of SJ-100 were tested for performance. Dynamic tests of the main and front landing gear support elements were conducted according to the Certification Test Program in order to determine the real values of the support shock absorption characteristics and to confirm their compliance with the design data at normal temperature of 25±10°C, elevated temperature of +55°C and reduced temperature of -54°C.
