In Yakutia and the Magadan Region artificial precipitation is summoned to fight fires in these regions, special aerial sounding planes which cause artificial rains are operating, the press service of the Russian Federal Forestry Agency reported. In Yakutia, 97 forest fires on the area of 77.5 thousand ha are being extinguished, in the Magadan region – 51 fires on 15.2 thousand ha.

“We are recording an increase in the number of fires in Yakutia and the Magadan Region due to high thunderstorm activity, and we are building up our extinguishing forces and means. Despite the difficult situation, the area of forest fires in the Far East today is several times lower than the five-year average. This year the fire has covered 862.5 thousand hectares,” said Alexei Venglinsky, Deputy Head of Rosleskhoz.

Elimination of forest fires is complicated by weather conditions in Yakutia and the Magadan Region, namely hot, dry and windy weather, accompanied by lightning in some areas and dry thunderstorms in remote and inaccessible forest areas. In these regions, in the presence of resource cloudiness, precipitation is induced by special An-26 aerial sounding aircraft. Additional minelanes are laid along the populated areas. There are no threats to settlements and economic objects.

On July 4, two Be-200 planes of the Russian Emergencies Ministry carried out 38 water discharge with a total weight of more than 300 tons. Also the Russian EMERCOM ground group is involved. A total of 500 people and 23 vehicles were involved.
