The United Engine Corporation has started work on the PD-8V engine for the Mi-26 line of helicopters. This was announced by UEC CEO Vadim Badekha at the opening of the new UEC-Kuznetsov Design and Research Centre in Samara.
More than 1.5 billion roubles have been invested into construction of the complex with the area of over 10 thousand square metres. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and modern IT infrastructure, the centre will develop advanced propulsion systems for aviation, space and energy industries.
Dmitry Azarov, Governor of Samara region, Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy CEO of Rostec State Corporation, and Vadim Badeha, CEO of United Engine Corporation, took part in the commissioning ceremony of the new centre.
“ODK-Kuznetsov has become the lead developer of a new, largest engine for domestic heavy-lift helicopters based on the PD-8 gas generator. Work on the PD-8V is the initiative of the United Engine Corporation and its creation will be carried out in close cooperation between our enterprises. The new PD-8V engine will be fully adapted to the platform of the Mi-26 helicopter,” said the general director of UEC.
Vadim Badekha noted that the engine will have advantages over its counterparts. For instance, a digital automatic control system will be used in it, the power plant capacity will be higher by 15% and it will also have better fuel efficiency. The UEC-Kuznetsov design bureau has formed a design team which has started work on the new turboshaft engine.
