Aeroflot and United Aircraft Corporation have agreed on the principal commercial terms for a potential contract covering 90 MC-21-310 narrow-body aircraft, marking a significant step towards a firm order for the type.
Aeroflot chief executive Sergey Alexandrovsky stated that key parameters of the agreement have been aligned, including leasing conditions and aftersales support. According to the airline, the proposed financing structure is consistent with its internal economic model, removing a major barrier to contract finalisation.
The carrier has confirmed readiness to proceed towards a firm contract. It currently holds an existing agreement for 18 MC-21 aircraft, while the additional 90 aircraft under discussion would form a second, significantly larger batch. Long-term fleet planning scenarios cited by the airline envisage a potential MC-21 fleet of up to 200 aircraft.
United Aircraft Corporation has previously stated that technical and industrial conditions for expanded MC-21 deliveries are in place, and that the production system is prepared for serial output once firm contractual commitments are secured. These positions were reiterated following a high-level government meeting in Zhukovsky on 24 June 2026.
As of mid-2026, UAC reports a total of 74 contracted civil aircraft across programmes, including 18 MC-21-310s, 42 Superjet aircraft, three Il-114-300 turboprops and 11 Tu-214s. More than 20 MC-21-310 airframes are currently in production.
Type certification of the MC-21 family is expected towards the end of 2027, with UAC indicating that a second Aeroflot batch agreement could be signed in 2026, subject to financing approval.
