In the production of IL-76MD-90A heavy transport aircraft at the Ulyanovsk branch of PJSC “IL” – Aviastar, the production of parts using modular 3D printed tools has been implemented. This is reported by the Ministry of Economic Development and Industry of the Ulyanovsk Region.
Innovative means of technological equipment of the new generation effectively replace the usual classic version while maintaining its functional capabilities and ability to withstand the necessary loads. The tools are made using additive technologies – three-dimensional or 3D printing with the predominant use of composite materials. The material and technical base of the scientific and educational laboratory “Competence Centre “Technology of Composite Materials” of the Institute of Aviation Technologies and Management of the Ural State Technical University was involved in the work on the production of the tool.
The new complex of jigs and fixtures for installation and fixing of blanks and tools, and also performance of assembly operations with their help, allows to increase labour productivity, reduce terms of constructive-technological preparation of production and material consumption. Lead-zinc dies have been replaced by dies made of impact-resistant composite materials in the tool shop and in the production of parts for stamping and punching.
Anastasia Koshkina, an engineer-technologist in the company’s cold stamping department, notes that the weight of the new dies is much lower, which makes it easier to place them on stackers, which significantly simplifies logistics and increases the efficiency of the use of production space.
