Crews of the Baltic Fleet’s Su-30SM2 multi-role fighter jets are training at an aviation training range in the Kaliningrad Region. As part of the scheduled event, the pilots demonstrated their skills in delivering precision bombing strikes against ground targets, performing various tactical episodes and practising fire support tasks for ground units.

“During the training flights, comprehensive work was carried out to destroy buried command posts, armoured vehicles and enemy manpower. After analysing the ground situation, the pilots proceeded to targeted bombing on full-size targets. For this purpose, they used fragmentation fugitive bombs OFAB-250-270 and OFAB-100-120,” the Baltic Fleet press service said.

The flights were carried out at altitudes from 900 to 2000 metres at speeds of up to 1000 km/h. The target range was located in the eastern part of the Kaliningrad region. The exercise took place both in daylight and in the dark.

Among the tasks practised by the crews were also manoeuvring in combat conditions and evading enemy fighter aircraft and air defences. To destroy ground targets, including those imitating columns of enemy vehicles, fighter pilots improved their skills in firing 30-mm automatic rapid-fire aircraft guns.

To fulfil these tasks, 10 Su-30SM2 aircraft and more than 100 engineers and technicians took part in the exercise. The range provided the most realistic conditions for practising various combat scenarios and improving the level of training of flight and technical personnel.

The OFAB-250-270 and OFAB-100-120 aerial fragmentation bombs used during the exercise are highly effective in hitting various targets, including military-industrial targets, lightly armoured vehicles and enemy personnel. These munitions are designed to strike aircraft, artillery pieces, vehicles and other ground targets.
