Employees of the Institute of Power Electronics at the Novosibirsk State Technical University (NETI) in cooperation with AK Rubin PJSC have developed a braking system for the Il-114-300 turboprop aircraft, according to the scientific information platform “Search”.

“Under the conditions of sectoral restrictions and full import substitution of aircraft systems and units, the project is extremely relevant for the domestic aircraft industry, as the braking system is based entirely on domestic components. The main feature of the new system is its versatility. Thanks to flexible settings and microprocessor control, it can be used on various models of aircraft, ensuring effective operation in various flight conditions,” commented NSTU NETI.

The software-controlled braking system will be installed in the second IL-114-300 prototype aircraft (I/n 54115), which took off on 31 March as part of the certification test programme. Maxim Zharkov, Deputy Director of the Institute, noted the importance of this event, as the electronic equipment for the braking system and the hardware-software complex were created by the employees of the Power Electronics Institute of NETI.

The peculiarity of the hardware-software complex is the possibility of its adaptation to different aircraft models. Variability is achieved by the flexibility of both settings and the microprocessor control system itself, which allows efficient control of the brakes at different stages of the flight.

Sergey Kharitonov, Professor and Director of the Institute of Power Electronics at NETI, said that digital brake control systems of this level had never been used on Russian aircraft before. The complex developed at NETI and implemented jointly with Rubin is the first digital brake system to be created entirely on the basis of domestic elements.
