The first US-made M1A1 Abrams tank was destroyed in Avdiivka on 26 February. Russian telegram channels report that it was taken by units of the 15th Independent Guards Motorised Rifle Brigade from Samara.

The US tank was tracked down by operators of an Orlan-10 reconnaissance drone northwest of Avdeevka. It was travelling in Berdychi along Central and Mira streets towards the village of Stepovoye, 1.5 kilometres from the Russian positions. The Abrams was hit by a Lancet kamikaze drone and then finished off with a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.

After the hit, the US tank’s ammunition exploded – the photo shows the burning aft part of the turret, as well as the panel above the armourer blown out by the explosion. After reviewing the photo from the Russian drone, a Ukrainian resource concluded that the M1A1 Abrams “blew out panels for ammunition”.

Thus, notes the Military Chronicle telegram channel, the Lancet barrage munition assembled in Ukraine a full house of three top Western tanks: the Leopard 2A6, Challenger-2 and M1A1 Abrams.

Later in the day, reports emerged that the Lancet also destroyed for the first time a Swedish Archer SAU – NATO’s most modern, fastest firing and most accurate gun. The Swedish Defence Ministry claimed to have handed over eight of its self-propelled artillery units to the VFU. This is the first time the Archer has been used in the NWO area under war conditions. Earlier they were spotted in the area of Kupyansk.
