Commissioning production trials of the new terminal have started at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (Yelizovo) Airport. Testing of passenger service and baggage handling processes is a necessary step before the facility is brought into operation, according to a press release from Rosaviatsiya (the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency).

During the production process trials, the operability of all the airport’s systems and equipment will be checked and fine-tuned under conditions that are as close as possible to real operation. Comprehensive tests enable the identification of potential shortcomings and allow for their timely correction, in order to ensure the reliable and uninterrupted operation of the terminal in the future.

“The first production test involved working through various passenger service scenarios, from arrival at the airport to boarding the flight. Particular attention was paid to the baggage handling process, which is critical to the smooth running of any airport. During the testing, the effectiveness of the interaction of various airport services, including security, check-in, and boarding, was checked,” said a representative of Rosaviatsiya.

More than 150 airport employees took part in the trials, simulating the actions of passengers at all stages of the process. The employees followed the technological routes for arrivals and departures, including entry and pre-flight security checks, check-in, boarding, baggage handling, and collection.

The new airport terminal complex has a total area of 50,000 square metres and incorporates service areas for both domestic and international flights. The complex also includes a hotel and retail zone, enabling passengers to access a full range of required services.

The airport is equipped with five air bridges, which provide convenient and safe boarding and disembarkation of passengers from aircraft, reduce turnaround times for aircraft, and improve passenger comfort in all weather conditions.

The new terminal has a throughput capacity of 1,145 passengers per hour. The increase in capacity meets the airport’s needs, taking into account future growth prospects. The full opening of the passenger terminal at the capital of the Kamchatka Territory is scheduled for Spring 2025, by which time all systems and equipment should be fully tested and ready for operation.
