Yelizovo Airport is the only air harbour in the Kamchatka region that provides passenger services to major Russian cities. A large-scale reconstruction at the airport began in 2019, in December this year the new passenger terminal will start serving the peninsula’s residents and guests.

During the reconstruction, the airport infrastructure modernisation works were carried out. The construction of the apron and taxiways, aircraft parking areas, construction of a patrol and production road and other facilities have been completed. The main part of the reconstruction was the construction of a new modern passenger terminal. The facade of the air terminal has already acquired a finished look, construction works have reached the final stage, interior finishing, laying of electrical, thermal and sanitary communications is in progress.

“The area of the new terminal is more than 50,000 square metres, which will significantly increase the airport’s capacity. The airport terminal will be equipped with four telescopic gangways, in the future their number may be increased to eight. The architectural peculiarity of the building lies in its shape resembling the caldera of a volcano. This solution not only emphasises the landscape of Kamchatka, but also takes into account the difficult climatic conditions and seismic activity of the region,” the press service of the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) said.

After the reconstruction is completed, the Yelizovo airport will become one of the largest in the Far East with a capacity of 1,145 passengers per hour. The new terminal will allow to expand the geography of flights from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, open new routes both within the Far Eastern Federal District and establish direct air communication with other regional centres of the country, expand international destinations. There will be comfortable conditions for passengers at the airport, which will also attract additional passenger traffic.

“Inside the new passenger terminal, in addition to creating a comfortable and functional air terminal area, it is planned to significantly expand passenger services. One of the key elements of this renewed complex is the construction of a 120-room hotel. Guests and tourists arriving in the region or making a transit flight through Yelizovo Airport will be able to use the services of a comfortable and modern hotel complex right on the territory of the airport terminal”, – a representative of Airports of Regions Management Company commented on the construction progress to the Russian Aviation website.

In addition, it is planned to create modern shopping areas inside the terminal, offering a wide range of goods and services for passengers. Various shops, cafes, restaurants and other retail and catering facilities will allow passengers to spend time with use and pleasure, regardless of the purpose of their journey. While waiting for a flight or making a transit stop, passengers will be able to use comfortable rest and waiting areas.

The creation of a hotel and retail space inside the passenger terminal is aimed not only at improving the level of service and comfort for passengers, but also contributes to the development of the airport infrastructure and its transit potential, according to the MC.
