Restoration work has begun on the Soviet “Lun” ekranoplan on the Caspian coast near Derbent, Dagestan. The project aims to return this unique ground-effect vehicle to its original appearance and preserve it as a piece of technological history.
The “Lun” ekranoplan, developed during the Soviet era, was designed to fly just above the water’s surface by utilizing the ground effect. This allowed it to combine the speed of an aircraft with the operational flexibility of a ship.
The restoration is being carried out with the goal of transforming the ekranoplan into a museum exhibit. Once completed, it is expected to become a central attraction for visitors and a symbol of Soviet engineering.
The restored “Lun” will serve as the centerpiece of a new tourist cluster on the Caspian coast, providing future generations with an opportunity to learn about this unique example of military and technological innovation.
