United Engine Corporation will show at MAKS-2023 a gas generator of promising high thrust engine PD-35. Alexander Inozemtsev, Deputy General Director of UEC JSC for the management of Perm Motors NPK, Managing Director – General Designer of UEC-Aviaadvigatel Joint Stock Company, announced this on the occasion of being awarded the title of Hero of Labor.

“I am grateful to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin for the high appreciation of my work and the work of the entire team of Perm engine builders. I would like to assure that we are not stopping at what we have achieved and are ready to show at the MAKS-2023 International Aerospace Show the gas generator of the PD-35, the industry’s first high thrust engine,” the UEC press service quotes Alexander Inozemtsev as saying.

The power plant for wide-body, long-haul aircraft will have a thrust of 35 tons. The fan diameter is 3.1 meters. The PD-14 has “only” 1.9 meters.

Currently the project is at the research phase within the framework of which the demonstration gas generator PD-35 and its individual assemblies have been manufactured and tested, and in 2024 a demo engine will be built and tested.

The PD-35 gas generator has a 10-stage compressor and a two-stage turbine. The fan with a diameter of 3100 mm will get blades made of polymer composite materials. The fan of the PD-14 TRDD is equipped with hollow wide-chord blades made of titanium alloy.

Achievement of the PD-35 engine’s specified parameters requires development of about 18 critical technologies, among which one of the key ones is the fan blade made of PCM. In 2020 Alexander Inozemtsev said that the transition from a solid titanium blade to a hollow titanium blade made it possible to reduce the mass of the unit by 30%, and the use of a composite blade will save weight by another 30%.
