On 25 December 2022, Rossiya Airlines made the first landing on the new runway at Ignatievo Airport in Blagoveshchensk after its opening, the Rossiya press service reported.
The new runway is 3,000 metres long and 45 metres wide, and its strength characteristics allow the operation of all modern types of aircraft, including wide-body aircraft. As part of the reconstruction of the aerodrome, modern lighting, radio and meteorological equipment was installed, the airport perimeter was secured, and new taxiways were built. On the eve of the first flight landing on the new runway, Rosaviatsia issued Blagoveshchensk Airport a certificate of compliance with the new runway.
The launch of the new runway will increase passenger traffic to Blagoveshchensk and improve transport accessibility of the city. It will also make it possible to introduce flights on long-haul wide-body airliners into the schedule, expanding the route network and increasing the airport’s passenger traffic. The Blagoveshchensk airport continues to develop: a new passenger and cargo terminal is currently under construction, and the existing apron is to be expanded. Soon it is planned to start reconstruction of the motorway from the city to Ignatievo.
In the airline “Russia” site “Aviation of Russia” specified that flights from Blagoveshchensk to Krasnoyarsk are performed daily, and on Mondays and Saturdays – twice a day. Together with the Far East airline “Aurora” there is a flight programme on the routes Blagoveshchensk – Vladivostok and Blagoveshchensk – Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk three times a week.
The construction of the new runway was carried out by Rostransmodernizatsiya, an enterprise subordinate to the Russian Ministry of Transport, at the expense of the federal budget under the state programme “Development of the Transport System”. The total investment in the development of the Ignatievo aerodrome is more than RUB 8bn.
