At the International Military-Technical Forum Army-2024 Yakovlev PJSC presented the Yak-130M aircraft with advanced combat capabilities, which is created on the basis of the Yak-130 combat trainer. Vladimir Artyakov, Deputy Director General of Rostec State Corporation, told about it on the opening day of the forum.

The main objective of the modernisation is to significantly enhance the strike capabilities of the aircraft, which will improve its competitiveness in the global market. The changes are aimed at meeting the needs of foreign partners who are interested in acquiring more affordable and lighter combat aircraft.

According to Vladimir Artyakov, the Yak-130M will have an expanded armament mix, including air-to-air missiles and precision air-to-ground weapons with satellite and laser guidance systems. This transforms the aircraft into a full-fledged light fighter while retaining its training functions. Such improvements make it an attractive option for both training and combat missions.

As part of the development work commissioned by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the design documentation for the production of prototypes has been finalised. The assembly process has already started at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, Yakovlev CEO Andrei Boginsky informed journalists.

“We have already started assembling Yak-130M prototypes at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. We plan to build a total of three prototype aircraft for testing. Certain technical solutions in the interests of the Yak-130M programme are being worked out on existing prototype aircraft, including the machine presented at the forum,” he said.

The upgraded Yak-130M includes an onboard radar station (BRLS-130R), an optical-laser thermal-television system (SOLT-130K), an onboard defence system President-S130 and a communications system (KSS-130). These systems significantly expand the aircraft’s capabilities, improving its performance in both combat missions and training flights.
