All centres of the United Air Traffic Management System have switched from foreign means of automation to Russian-made ones. The last one to switch to Russian products was the ATM centre in Rostov-on-Don. Foreign solutions used by units of the Unified Air Traffic Management System now use products developed by Azimut. They are used to control flights over the entire territory of the country, the press service of Rostec State Corporation said.

The Unified System of Air Traffic Management (USATM) was created for safe use of airspace and is strategically important for Russia. It consists of 14 regional centres in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Simferopol and other cities, which serve all air routes in Russia, the total length of more than 800,000 km over 26 million square kilometers.

“The Rostov Air Traffic Control Centre, which serves the whole south of Russia, was the last one where we, together with our partners from Rosaviation, Almaz-Antey and the State Air Traffic Service Corporation, carried out a complete import substitution. The modular principle of our equipment minimises the possibility of error propagation, with the probability of total system failure reduced to zero. Thanks to this, the airspace capacity has been increased and flight safety has been improved,” commented Sergei Chemezov, Rostec CEO.

The domestic automation complex commissioned in Rostov-on-Don includes air traffic control, communication, documentation and training facilities. It allowed to equip more than 70 workplaces of control and engineering personnel, as well as to provide simultaneous support for up to 4000 aircraft within the area of responsibility of the Regional Centre over an area of 1.2 million square kilometres. Commissioning of the new system was preceded by a lengthy effort to manufacture and deliver, install, configure and test the equipment, as well as train the centre’s personnel in the use and operation of the complex.

The Unified Air Traffic Management System Centre, located in Rostov-on-Don, is a structural subdivision of the branch Aeronavigatsia Yuga of the State Air Traffic Management Corporation of the Russian Federation. It plans and coordinates the use of airspace and provides flight clearance and notification procedures.
