Ulyanovsk AeroComposite has finished the production and handed over the wing prototype made from polymer-composite materials for the Russian-Chinese wide-body long-range aircraft CR929 for testing in TsAGI. This was announced by the General Director of JSC AeroComposite, the First Deputy Director General of Irkut Corporation Anatoly Gaidansky during the forum Composites without borders.
“This year we have finished and now we put on the test in TsAGI a prototype of the composite wing for the aircraft CR929. You know – it is our joint project with the Chinese partners that we are now preparing to the tests and probably by the middle of this year we will conduct the static tests”, he said.
According to Gaidanskogo, the wing of the CR929 aircraft is much larger than the wing of the passenger airliner MС-21. The size of the prototype in the chord makes up to 6 m and the length – up to 22 meters. Wing increase in comparison with MС-21 entails other profile thickness and accordingly quite different design characteristics and strength test methods, noted the general director of AeroComposite.
Anatoly Gaydansky also stressed that the CR929 wing prototype is planned to be demonstrated at the MAKS-2023 air show, so that the exhibition visitors could see with their own eyes how serious the construction is.
In March 2021, TsAGI completed tests of the CR929 wing model with sickle-shaped ends on the disruption phenomena on the wing tips, both at low and high flight speeds.
