On August 14, 2025, a new batch of Su-30SM2 fighter aircraft arrived at an Air Force and Air Defense Forces base in the Republic of Belarus. The aircraft delivery is part of military-technical cooperation with the Russian Federation and aims to enhance the Belarusian Air Force’s capability to secure the country’s airspace, according to the Belarusian Ministry of Defense.

Colonel Andrey Rachkov, Chief of Staff and First Deputy Chief of Aviation Operations for the Air Force and Air Defense Forces, noted that the Su-30SM2 represents a modernized and significantly upgraded aircraft platform. The fighter’s target detection range has increased nearly threefold, while updated avionics and navigation systems enable autonomous flight operations without satellite navigation support. The aircraft features an expanded weapons suite, including guided and unguided missiles, as well as precision munitions with universal guidance and correction modules.

Belarus received the initial aircraft batch in early 2025. Flight crews and maintenance personnel have successfully completed aircraft transition training, while preparation of junior pilots and technicians continues alongside active air defense alert missions using these aircraft, the statement confirmed.

Russia and Belarus continue to develop defense and security cooperation as a strategic partnership component aimed at strengthening the Union State (the formal alliance between Russia and Belarus). This cooperation includes joint programs for weapons systems development and modernization, encompassing aviation platforms.

Russia regards the Republic of Belarus as its primary military-technical cooperation partner for ensuring collective security, countering international terrorism, and strengthening political and economic ties throughout the region. Against the backdrop of growing security threats to the Union State, both nations are enhancing the combat readiness of their joint regional force grouping through combined exercises and coordinated defense initiatives.
