Part of the Superjet 100 passenger aircraft fleet may suspend flights due to the running out of stocks of American spark plugs for SaM146 engines, the media reported.
In spring 2022 the manufacturer of SaM146 engines, the Russian-French company PowerJet stopped supplying and supporting its power units in Russia, suspending their repair, as well as the supply of spare parts and consumables to the Russian Federation.
The press service of the United Engine Corporation issued a statement in connection with the emerging shortage of spark plugs:
As part of the cooperation, we are working intensively on the creation of an analog of the spark plug, this year we expect the result.
The Ufa Scientific-Production Enterprise Molniya (part of Technodinamika) is involved in the work on import substitution of spark plugs. By the end of this year, it is planned to get Rosaviatsiya’s approval for a domestic analog and produce commercial samples for supply to airlines.
