During the big press conference of the Governor of the Oryol Region Andrei Klychkov, the reconstruction of the regional airport was touched upon. The head of the region said that the contract for the works has already been signed, and now construction works are being carried out at the facility. This was reported in the press service of the Oryol Region Government.

The aim of the project is to create a full-fledged airport with a modern take-off and landing site, the necessary equipment and the possibility of regular flights.

“As of today, we have entered together with the contractor into Glavgosexpertiza to create a full-fledged airport. We realise that this is a larger project and it is not the one billion roubles that was envisaged by the project earlier. Our task is to complete the first stage of the airport reconstruction and create a take-off and landing area by 31 August 2024. The second stage provides for the purchase and installation of a large amount of equipment necessary for the functioning of a full-fledged airport,” the governor said.

The region has allocated 1.4 billion rubles for the implementation of the first stage of reconstruction. Within its framework the works on the runway, patrol road, the foundations for the service-passenger building are being built. A total of 60 workers are involved in the project.

For the implementation of the second stage it is planned to purchase and install the necessary equipment for the functioning of the airport, including equipment for passenger, baggage and cargo handling, as well as flight safety equipment.

After the completion of the whole complex of works envisaged by the project, it will be possible to resume flights from the Orel region and back to Russian cities located within a radius of 3000 kilometres. Such data was provided by the regional administration, based on the maximum possible flight range of aircraft – technically, the airport runway will be able to receive and dispatch Superjet 100 (SJ-100) aircraft.
