Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District, ordered the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Transportation together with the leasing company to deal with the rising cost of the LMS-901 “Baikal” aircraft development. He said this during his working trip to Sakhalin.

“We have looked at the work of Aurora company. The company is developing, working, but there are issues there related to the construction of a new aircraft for domestic lines. We supported the construction of the Baikal aircraft, but in the process it started to increase in price for some reason. I asked the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Transport and the leasing company to find out why this is happening,” Trutnev said.

He stressed that the work to identify the cause of the increased cost of operation of the aircraft should be resolved within two weeks.

Earlier, it was reported that the Russian government has allocated more than 237 billion rubles for aircraft construction projects this year. The funds will be provided on a repayable basis through the purchase of bonds of Russian leasing companies. In addition, about 40 domestic aircraft: Superjets, Baikal and Mi-171 helicopters will join the fleet of Aurora, a Far-Eastern airline.
