Certification tests of the AV-901 propeller, designed for the light multipurpose LMS-901 Baikal aircraft, have begun at a Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA) facility in Moscow. The Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) reported the commencement of these tests.

Deputy Head of Rosaviatsiya Andrey Dobryakov and Head of the Russian Aviation Register Viktor Priymak reviewed the testing process, inspected the laboratory, and examined the test stands, according to the agency’s statement.

The tests are conducted in accordance with a program approved by the Russian Aviation Register and include static and fatigue testing of propeller components, as required by federal aviation regulations. Certification experts from various centers participate as part of a dedicated working group under agency supervision.

Under a contract with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, UZGA is upgrading the LMS-901 Baikal to replace the imported engine with a domestically produced powerplant. The plant will carry out experimental design work to install the VK-800SM engine and the AV-901 propeller.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, with a total budget exceeding 10.36 billion rubles (approx. $110 million USD). By December 2025, propeller testing is expected to be finalized, and necessary amendments will be made to the design documentation.

Revision of the LMS-901 design documentation will begin in November 2025, alongside modifications to prototype aircraft for the VK-800SM turboprop engine. The fifth DMS-901 prototype is expected to be completed by December. Preliminary and static tests will be conducted by year-end.
