United Engine Corporation showed several photos from its stand at Airshow China 2024. One of them shows that the 5th generation 177C engine is the second stage propulsion system for the Su-57 fighter. Previously, the prototype of this engine in Russia was called ‘product 30’.
It is ‘product 30’ or what it has become after flight tests and modifications that UEC is demonstrating at its stand in Zhuhai. The engine has a thrust of 14500 kgf in no afterburner mode, while the first stage AL-41F1 engine currently installed on the Su-57 has a thrust of 8800 kgf in normal mode and 15000 kgf in afterburner (reheat).
In July 2023, a presentation by UEC-Kuznetsov was shown at the Samara Technical University during a scientific and technical conference on the prospects for the development of the engine industry. One of its slides showed the second-stage engine for the Su-57 as the AL-51F1.
This presentation also drew attention in the West. For example, Aviation week published a review of the engine a few days after the conference, prepared by the publication’s expert Peter Butowsky.
It is assumed that in addition to the Su-57, the AL-51F1 engine will also be installed on the S-70B-1 Okhotnik UAV with a flat nozzle, as well as on the Su-75 CheckMate light tactical aircraft.
